On va à Paris…

This weekend will be a weekend like no other as for the first time teachers and pupils alike are actually looking forward to a Sunday evening! Tongue out

Our annual S1 trip to Paris departs this Sunday and I have seen a LOT of excited people around the school this week as the departure date is fast approaching. We are cramming lots of trips and visits into our short stay in Paris including the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Élysées, the Stade de France and Disneyland to name a few.

DS Games

Recently the Modern Languages Department purchased some Nintendo DS's and games to help your french. The games are called 'Mind your Language' and 'My French Coach'. The aims of these games are to help you with your language skills.

The Internet and Technology Club have been testing these new editions to the department and think they're great. One member said "They help your french skills in listening, reading and speaking and is fun way to learn."

The "Mind your Language" game is less advanced but is perfect for the lower half of the school and is a little easier to follow as you get to design an avatar to make your way through the game.

However "My French Coach" is better for helping you with your speaking as it uses the DS,s microphone feature to record your speaking.r..

Le Tour de France

TOUR DE FRANCE 2011

The 2011 Tour de France will be the 98th Tour de France. It is made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3,430.5 kilometres.  It will start on 2 July with 180 km 1st stage in Passage du Gois, and end on the Champs-Elysées in Paris on 24 July.

There are twenty-two cycling teams who work together to compete in the Tour de France.  The cyclists must be extremely fit to complete each stage, particularly when there are only two rest days which are on the 11th and 18th of July.  There are five different types of stages in the Tour de France, the Flat stage, Medium-mountain stage, Mountain stage, one Team Time Trial (TTT) and one Individual Time Trial (ITT).  A team time trial is a road-based bicycle race in which teams of cyclists race against the clock. An individual time trial is also a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (contre la montre).  ITT's are also known as "the race of truth", as the cyclists compete individually without the help from their team mates to get the best time.  This gives each competitor the opportunity to show off their strength and fitness in the height of summer!  Do you think you could do it?
