Well the World Cup is now over in South Africa and the European Cup holders have won and they really were the best team. Spain always tried to play passing, free-flowing and attack minded-football (like a certain Edinburgh team, may I add ) and it was refreshing to see Iniesta's cool finish, especially after the Dutch tried to play a game of what was basically assault. Nigel De Jong's boot karate was quite amazing to only recieve a yellow... The whole of England had three whole men to cheer on, the referee and his two assistants who between them managed to issue the most ever bookings in a WC final.
Unfortunately I had to leave Spain on Saturday morning to go to France. I dearly would have loved to be in Espana last night but it was really great to hear the French pundits cheering on the French. In the town where I am (La Ciotat, near Marseille) the streets were packed with French shouting "Viva Espagne!" and the huge cheer when they scored was nice to hear. The French hold no biterness towards thier own dismal performance and were happy to see their neighbours win (wouldn't see that in bonnie Ecosse eh) Even the crowd of Dutch around seemed in good spirits.
I'm lucky enough to be in Spain just now and last night was amazing. The Spanish fans were great and I've been learning all the chants to pass on when I come back. Need a little snooze now to recover - hope evryone is enjoying the hols.
