Premièrement, peux-je me présenter ? Je m’appelle Cameron et je suis un élève dans la classe de ‘Higher’ Français. J'ai pensé que je pourrais commencer ' blogging' pour le meilleur département dans PHS!
Le sujet aujourd’hui ? Les langues vivantes sur votre iPod/iPhone! Très cool, non?
Right so, back in English for this. It's the 21st century and many, many students are under the thumb of Apple, producers of the very excellent iPod/iPhone. I own an iPod touch, and I would like to share some useful app that I have found for it.
1. Le Monde.fr (Free) - This app is for the French newspaper Le Monde. This is a nice wee app which allows you to read the French news on the go (now I know that's not an exciting idea in concept, but it helps a lot with french!) I'd say that this one is best for the Highers, but for anyone who is ambitious and likes French it's a good read. It's also free which means if you don't like it just bin it! Also, under the section 'Télézapping' there are short videos which you can watch.
2. France 24 live (Free) - France 24 are a French news service (think Sky News... but in French) and this app allows you to watch their 24hr news channel - live! The channel broadcasts simultaneously in three languages French, English and Arabic, all of which can be accessed through this app. Apart from watching the Channel 'En Direct' you can watch (and download for later) Le Dernier Joural (The last news report) Économie (No prizes for guessing that one) Culture (...) Sports (also simple) and Météo (Which is the world weather) This app really is worth it... and is free!
3. French Verbs (Free or £1.79 for full version!) This app is a life saver. Folio pieces, directed writing or just plain homework this app is amazing for all. The app contains verbs conjugated into 16 tenses. The paid version has around 2280 verbs, all into 16 tenses. Everything from Abaisser - Zigazguer! Tenses include: Present, Imperfect, Past Simple, Future Simple, Past Composite, Pluperfect, Anterior Past, Anterior Future, Present Subjunctive, Past Subjunctive, Pluperfect Subjunctive, Present Conditional, Past Conditional (1st form), Past Conditional (2nd form), Imperative and something called Participle... More tenses than you will ever use at school! Try the free version first and if you like you can move on to more! Also available in Italian!
4. El País (Free) - Habla Español? If you do then there's another news app! See Le Monde.fr above for similar details, it's basically the same. You can get international news and there's a dedicated section for news from Spain! Sections include: Última hora (latest news), Internacional, España, Deportes (Sports), Videos, etc. Once again a very good free app for the interested linguist!
5. m.tv5monde.com - Strictly speaking, not an app. The mobile site of french channel TV5. Offers news, views and more. Also you can watch 'le Flash info' which is the lastest news report.

Well I think that's more than enough from me! I'd make a good salesman.. But I thought I'd take the time to recommend some apps for the linguist in you. I'm sure there are more I don't know yet, but I will update with anything of note. I hope you might try and enjoy a few of these, as not only do they help with languages, the news apps allow you to take a look at foreign news or news from a foreign perspective! Which can be interesting.
A bientôt, hasta luego or a presto,
Cameron!
